Who We Are

We are a friendly bunch of local landholders restoring habitat in the region

Langwarrin Woodlands and Northern Westernport Landcare group is situated in the Gippsland Plains bioregion and Westernport Biosphere reserve, and extends from Langwarrin in the west, to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens in the north, Devon Meadows in the east and extending south through Cannons Creek, Pearcedale and Somerville, incorporating Westernport coastline.

Our region covers over 90 square km of the northern Westernport area through EVCs including Heathy Woodlands (Vulnerable) and Grassy Woodland (Endangered). Significant vertebrates remaining in the project area include Southern Brown Bandicoot (Westernport Biosphere reserve SBB Recovery Program 2003; EPBC Act=Endangered), Orange bellied parrot (critically endangered, feeding on saltmarsh on Westernport coastline), Litoria raniformis Growling Grass Frog, Pseudophryne semimarmorata Southern Toadlet and many others.
With a confirmed sighting of a Southern Brown Bandicoot in Langwarrin (2016) and several unconfirmed sightings in Cranbourne South and Pearcedale (2013 - 2015) the group is more excited than ever to see they results of a community working together for a common goal.
Invasive weed species having a high impact locally include Pittosporum undulatum, Acacia sophorae/longifolia ssp and pasture grasses, particularly Holcus lanatus Yorkshire Fog, Anthoxanthum odoratum, Sweet Vernal-grass and Ehrharta erecta var. erecta Panic Veldt grass. Other species impacting local habitat include sollya heterophylla Bluebell creeper.
